The Impact of Technologies in Quality Control
In the daily fabric of work, the effectiveness of communication plays a pivotal role, and here technology comes into play as a fundamental ally. In this context, constant interaction with the customer becomes a crucial aspect, a dynamic confrontation aimed at dispelling any doubts. The clarity of words and the synthesis of information become the foundation for ensuring that each message is understood unambiguously. Technology offers multiple tools that enhance this communication, from emails to tables, graphs or spreadsheets that clearly summarize the progress of operations.
For the entire workflow, Hub&Logistics uses a WMS application, a powerful and essential system for the processing phases and continuous connection with the customer that allows him to map every single step and travel on parallel tracks, dispelling doubts, inconsistencies, risks and problems.
Final Quality Control: what happens during and after the control
In the quality control department, operators have IT tools at their disposal with which they pick up items and classify the goods. The products are checked and selected according to certain parameters: in the presence of issues, operators report to the manager who consults technical sheets, databases, and compliance, or involves the relevant technicians in the matter. At the end of the assessment, in the case of confirmed defects, the articles are stopped, awaiting on-site feedback. In the case of minor possible repairs, the operator proceeds to fix the defect.
Quality Control Route: from the green light to focal selection
At the end of the control of each individual invoice of specific suppliers and product categories, the products that have passed the check travel to the next step of the other departments.
The goods that the department has stopped, pieces that cannot be repaired with the tools provided to the operators but can only be evaluated and reviewed by the supplier who packaged them, are classified as second choices and moved to the “final” quality control area, where the information phase begins.
Technology and Communication: The Unstoppable Alliance
The introduction of multimedia elements enhances communication significantly.
Every single piece is accompanied by a coupon issued by the operating system, an essential identity card that shows the description, area and detail of the problem encountered.
For the final reporting, the operator has at his disposal a camera with a macro lens, a PC with programs suitable for graphic processing and a scanner for reading the individual barcodes.
The technological approach goes beyond mere data comparison. The use of high-resolution photos and, in specific cases, the utilization of a macro lens, enables capturing important details and relating the complexity of the product by juxtaposing the defective details to communicate, thereby specifying the dimension of the defect and objectively assessing the severity and potential impact it could create. Videos provides a more complete view of any issues that cannot be summarized in a single photo, such as a noise created by an object located in the heel of a boot or a jammed closing mechanism of a bag, the stuck joint of a belt buckle or the steps of correct packaging for a specific item.
Beyond Statistics: A Vision for the Future
The photos are paginated in PPT files and accompanied by a report that summarizes the essential information, saved in PDF considering the devices that will receive the data and subsequently attached and sent by e-mail. The information will be used by the customer to immediately communicate the shipment for repair or the re-evaluation of individual cases that will be reclassified as first choice or stored in outlet warehouses.
The alchemy of data: analysis for a future of innovation
A QC statistic is created monthly that exposes a crystal clear picture of how brands are performing:
- Report on second choices from seasonal production
- Report on second-choice Wholesale Returns from stores and warehouses
- Report on e-commerce shipments and returns with details of stock replacements
- Factory Inspection Percentage Report
These analyses provide a detailed insight into the issues and workflow, offering essential details to enhance and evolve for new seasons, relying on real facts to create new certainties, innovate materials, and invest in excellence.
